Basque Country in the North of Spain...

Spain is a land of contrats: old and modern, green and blue, alive and quiet... and the Basque Country in the North of Spain is a perfect show of this surprising biodiversity within a 100-kilometre radius.

In the North of Spain, the Basque Country has much to offer yet something special for everyone, and Vitoria is right in the centre of the Basque Country, a short drive from cities like Bilbao, San Sebastian, Pamplona, Burgos and the Rioja wine region.

If you’re looking for the urban experience, Bilbao, the biggest city in the Basque Country with its Titanium-clad trademark Guggenheim Museum, is definitely worth a visit. But if you’re more into nature, you’ll find plenty of quaint mountain villages and scenic seaside towns surrounding the city in the Basque Coast.

To the East of the Basque Country you have the charming city of San Sebastian, home of the glamorous Film Festival, with its famous urban beaches and fashionable cafés and boutiques.

A short drive East takes you to Pamplona where you can visit Hemingway’s old haunts and enjoy the Fiesta atmosphere that inspired some of his novels.

In the South part of the Basque Country, not far from Vitoria it is the Rioja wine region, with its rolling vineyard-covered hills. Which winery will you visit? From large facilities with striking ultra-modern architecture to small family-run estates, there ´s wine to suit every taste.
